Southern Befrienders say “Loneliness affects 1 in 5 people, according to recent research, leading to a deterioration in mental health, as well as affecting emotional and physical wellbeing. Southern Befrienders is on hand to support those experiencing loneliness. Volunteer befrienders provide one-to-one companionship to older people, visiting regularly for a chat and a cuppa. We also run friendly social activities for people to spend time together and feel valued as members of their community.”
